Camelot! Camelot! Camelot! Oh, it's only a model.

Day Twenty-one
Which actor would you want to meet?

I'd want to meet Richard Harris, the original Dumbledore. Much to my everlasting dismay, he passed away in 2002. I like Michael Gambon just fine, but I loved Richard Harris. Plus, he was King Arthur in Camelot, a musical that played an integral role in my childhood. (Because, you know, movies about marital problems and adultery and betrayal should be the basis for every little girl's growing-up years.)
Also, the dude was a STUD when he was younger. Consider the following...

Runner-up: Emma Thompson, which is sort of cheating because I wouldn't bother with Harry Potter talk. I'd want to chat about every other awesome movie she's made. That woman is the bomb-diggity.

Wow, I had no idea he was such a looker in his younger days! I definitely don't share the hate for Michael Gambon that seems to be rampant among HP fans, but I do think that Harris's portrayal was truer to the book Dumbledore.

this is somewhat on topic, but I'd be really interested to hear your take on J.K. Rowling's tabloid news stunt about Dumbledore

I think Dumbledore is someone who is a well-respected, wise old wizard (which is how Richard Harris portrayed him), who is also kind of an oddball hippie (which is how Michael Gambon portrayed him). Neither performance seems to capture him being both at the same time.

I concur with both choices. Michael Gambon isn't bad, but in my opinion Richard Harris grasped the personality of Dumbledore completely--he made him seem so believable. This may seem weird, but I almost felt that the way he portrayed Dumbledore felt more powerful and more magical all at the same time. And, hello--Emma Thompson! She rocks. (Though, can I throw in Alan Rickman as Snape--he's fun to watch, too.)
